Great post and good to let others know when to worry and not worry. My nephew hadn’t said anything before his third birthday so my sister was panicking and they thought maybe downsydrome and now he never stops talking and just took a lot longer to learn then others. Sometimes I think it’s tough to know when it’s too early or too late. I was a little consider for MM but this summer she is starting to talk more. I just do lots of sensory play with her at the moment as she hasn’t been diagnosed properly yet so haven’t been given a list of specific things to do. She has pretty big meldowns when she gets overwhelmed and I find stroking her is the only thing that calms her down. She seems to like touch so we’re doing lots of things where she can feel different things.

Gosh, that’s very expensive speech therapy 😉 It’s bloody expensive though isn’t it going privately! Jeepers, I was quite astonished at the cost which is why we waited on the public list. Glad she caught up once the grommets were in place though!

I’m glad you got a diagnosis Dani and you can move forward with a clear plan and have something to work with. How is he getting on now and how are you with it all? It must be quite overwhelming.

Sounds like they are on track Laney, part of my concern was that Cohen’s comprehension wasn’t good on top of the lack of legible words but would pay to bring it up anyway, certainly can’t hurt!

The very first thing they do when you bring up any concern surrounding speech is to check their hearing thoroughly and review their health for any signs of recurrent ear infections etc, so if it is that then that is addressed prior to any therapy, once that is ruled out then the speech therapy can be applied for. Glad she managed to catch up on her own 🙂

There is some truth to boys taking a little longer and he has an older brother who may be speaking for him a little too. Good luck with the repetition thing as it worked really well for us!

Wow, that’s amazing! We have sensory issues too, can I ask what kind of things you are doing for them? We haven’t had those checked out yet though kindy is keeping an eye on him and say he is improving.
